Corey Williams: YouTube Crybaby

As far as YouTube celebrities go, Corey Williams of SMPfilms is BY FAR, the whiniest little bitch on the website.

Case in point:

Honestly, he should be grateful YouTube didn’t kiss his ass to the curb back when he was shilling for Goldenpalace.com back when 3rd-party advertising was still a TOS violation.

It’s Over.

As Bush’s term as worst president of all time comes to an end, the presidential election has finished. Obama’s quest to become the 1st black president is complete and McCain was sent packing.

Over in Youtubia, my struggle to debut the pilot episode of El Bastardo Magnifico finished, while Phil DeFranco announced his abortion of a show would see it’s finale in a year (cross your fingers) and Charles Trippy’s fiance told him she didn’t love him anymore.

Good times all around.

As far as the election goes… got damn what a thing to behold. Never mind not believing I’d see a black man become president of the US in my lifetime, I never would have surmised I’d see the ENTIRE WORLD celebrate Obama’s victory. Simply amazing.

To be honest though, I cannot understand why ANYONE could have voted for McCain using logic and their conscience as their guide. Of course that’s what the GOP banks on; they depend on people NOT to think. That’s why so few people questioned the morality of Bush swiftboating a war veteran for his own gain and voted for him based mainly on their fear in ’04.

For crying out loud Sarah Palin was a colossal failure as a VP pick. As the McCain campaign staff have been revealing as they throw her under the bus today is that she didn’t even know what countries North America was made up of. She thought the fucking continent of Africa was a country.

THAT was the main failure of his campaign. Yes, ignorant people are more prone to emotion-based manipulation, but you can’t succeed when you’re using someone dumber than the people you’re trying to fool to do it.

(Unless you’re talking about the majority of people that live in ALABAMA, ALASKA, ARIZONA, ARKANSAS, GEORGIA, IDAHO, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI, MISSOURI, MONTANA, NEBRASKA, NORTH DAKOTA, OKLAHOMA, SOUTH CAROLINA, SOUTH DAKOTA, TENNESSEE, TEXAS, UTAH, WEST VIRGINIA, and WYOMING. Cool folk I know in those states excepted of course.)

As far as Bastardo goes… whew. It was a long, hard slog to get that video out, but it IS out and I’m very happy to have overcome that hurdle. The video turned out pretty good in my opinion. I managed to trim a LOT of fat from the original script due to being behind schedule and the final product definately benefited from that.

I think one thing I need to work on is spending less time plotting out episodes in my head and more in production. There hasn’t been a day that’s gone by for the last 2 years that I HAVEN’T thought about Bastardo and it’s going to be a challenge to remind myself to focus on production than contemplation.

The next video will be a bit more ambitious with a tighter deadline and i hope you’ll all enjoy the final result.

R.I.P. Geek Machine: September 2004 – October 2008

Rest well, old chum.

This was my first REAL computer. I did all my research, decided this computer was just right for me and went to the store to take it home.

Unfortunately, all of those computers had already been purchased, and all that remained was the demo model, sitting there on a shelf with no purpose. Not wanting to go home empty handed, or settle with an inferior machine, I offered to buy this runt of the litter, provided they promised full warranty just in case sitting powered up and idle for months had severely decreased its lifespan.

I took it home and I worked that machine hard over the next 4 years. Massive amounts of writing, downloading, websurfing, video editing, and inhaling of a LOT of 2nd-hand cigarette smoke. It did it’s duty and did it well; it was a true workhorse.

About midway through the year I knew its time was coming to an end. It was getting slower and slower and it would groan during some of the harder tasks and I would give it a rub and a bit of a pat and say “Just hang in there a little while longer old boy, just a little longer”.

Finally, a couple Thursdays ago, I woke up and went to the tired, old horse to read the news while I ate cereal and got ready for work and I discovered it had passed on in the night. I had left it on so i could recharge my mp3 player and even though it had expired, the mp3 player was still charging when I discovered its corpse.

Faithful to the end.

I have a new computer now, one I have dubbed the Mean Machine. It’s jet black and faster, stronger better, superior to the Geek Machine in every way, but I still miss the old boy.

It served me well.

I Don’t Do Politics Anymore

I’ve done political themed vids in the past, but I just can’t do it anymore. To make a video about something going on in the political world just hurts too much. My mind just can’t take that extreme level of illogical bullshit anymore. The 2004 election wore me down, this election has broken me. I’m done.

Two Years Down the Road

I noticed that yesterday, September 23rd, 2008, marked the 2-year anniversary of my channel on YouTube. I was hoping to make a video today but “Site Maintenance” quickly squashed any hope of that happening.

Two years ago I had shelved El Bastardo’s 6-part miniseries and started sharing my perpective into the void, donning a disguise and altering my voice as to not get fired from my job for my opinions or gain fame like “average joes” like Boh3m3 or Renetto.

(Oddly enough, it was Renetto’s Coke and Mentos vid that showed me that YouTube was more than a depository for television clips of past and present, Boh3m3′s videos that showed me that people were interested in listening to random people’s opinions and Angry Aussie’s vids showed me it was acceptable to do so in a mask.)

YouTube had so much potential then. There was so much excitement; there was an energy to the place that you could feel and know that great things could be achieved in the new world of online video.

So much of that squandered now, in the search for the almighty dollar. Corruption, cheating, gaming of the system and selling out are the order of the day.

Now, two years later I’ve yet to break 1,000 subscribers, but ask the who’s who of YouTube who I am and there’s a good chance they’ll know. (see where you’ll get if you ask if anyone knows what I look like though)

Two years and now I’m slowly but surely taking the back seat on YouTube so El Bastardo Magnifico can have his time to shine. The “Stranger” persona will be around as long as I am able to maintain it, which if I have my way will be until YouTube shuts down or becomes obsolete.

As far as YouTube goes, I think I’ve done as much as I can do as a masked sonofabitch fighting against that which hinders the website’s potential for true greatness. At this point in the game there’s not much that I can do when the staff would rather look the other way or give people a slap on the wrist behind closed doors than properly deal with and openly discourage the things that make it a not-so-great place to be.

Bastardo’s making things Fun again. As frustrated as I’ve been in getting this 1-man show on the road, it’s been fun and exciting, like the good old days. When Big Blue finally makes his official debut (hopefully by Halloween) the last thing on my mind is going to be views and subscribers. I plan on having the time of my life, and hopefully encourage people to start making videos again that make them smile while they’re recording their own content, instead of putting on a phony grin while they apply their formula to attempt to get on the Most Viewed list, or pretending to be excited about some product they’re being paid to promote.

Has Boh3m3 Seen the Light?

Honestly, I thought I’d seen the last of Ben Going. I had assumed that he’d taken his ball and gone home after resigning himself to his irrelivence on YouTube, but appearantly this is not the case:

“From now on, I will only be putting out high-quality, well-crafted videos. You have my word on that. The boh3m3 channel will no longer settle for webcam vlogs and youtube drama posts. I have a higher standard for my videos now, and I’d like you all to help me get to where I want to be.

I don’t have tits, a cat, or a cheesy shtick to pander day after day to Youtube, so I don’t get much money at all from views. If I can get enough views to earn some real money, I will put most of that money towards producing better content more frequently, instead of blowing it on an iPhone and gallavanting across the country fucking groupies.” (TS note: HA! Suck it Phil.)

I can definitely relate to the sentiment of desiring to achieve a higher standard on YouTube, I of course having taken a similar stance a few months back.

Whether or not this new direction will yield any fruit remains to be seen, and it’s doubtful that Ben has adjusted his whiny, immature, man-boy attitude, but his statement has intrigued me, and I think I’ll have to keep a close eye on this one.

It’s Not Offensive When We™ Do It

I don’t think it’s any secret that I keep a watchful eye on the “movers and shakers” of YouTube, as well as keep track of news relating to the website itself. What can I say, I’m a guy that likes to be In The Know.

So I know of course that YouTube has been having trouble selling ads against their videos. Less than 3% if the stories are correct. So I can understand why they would call up one of their Partners (read: douchebags) like SXEPhil, and make him remove a video because it’s too offensive.

I can dig that; YouTube’s got money to make and they need to make some gains in the Advertiser Confidence Department. The website needs their stars to keep it PG-13 or it hurts everyone in the long run.

What doesn’t make sense to me though is is when they do an about-face when it comes to a Big Name Star like Seth MacFarlane. The Calvacade of Comedy is supposed to serve both as original content for the website, as well as something to sell advertising against; essentially a polished version of a YouTube celebrity/Partner, or the “Platinum Partner” as it’s rumored to be called in YouTube HQ.

Now someone like DeFranco says a lot of stupid, semi-offensive bullshit in a failed attempt to seem edgy, but I fail to recall anything he’s done that would scare advertisers away in comparison to MacFarlane featuring a couple with 5-foot long nipples talking to a boy that sneezes out a football-sized lump of shit.

Am I missing something here?
